Should I net my Plum tree to stop birds eating the fruit?

Hi I am new, my name is Marion ( Maza) so hello all. My question is I have a plum tree, as we moved here in December 2021, am No experienced gardener so please excuse if I sound daft. I just want to know if will they grow bigger and should we put a net up to stop birds ( bought one)  and will we be able to eat them?.

Hello Mazza,

If it is feasible, put a net cage around your fruit, thereby leaving a gap between the fruit and the net, if you just lay a net over the fruit birds will be able to peck through the net, please use a proper size net, so as birds cannot get tangled up, your local garden centre should be able to advise, reference eating your fruit, patience until they ripen up, give them a wash and hopefuly enjoy.
