    Peace Lily - black spots

    Hi all!

We have a peace lily which has been struggling for the last couple of months. This time last year it was very thick with at least double the number of leaves and we have completely lost one root section.

We initially had it in quite bright light, however it was losing leaves, and new leaves were coming out very pale yellow so we repotted with new soil and have put it in indirect light. Currently water with house plant food once every 5 days. Soil does not feel wet to touch.

For the last 3 weeks dark black spots have been coming up on the leaves, expanding and eventually the leaves are dying. Now almost all the leaves are affected. It's already a lot thinner than it was this time last year (50% less leaves). However there are two new leaves out and a flower coming.

    Hi @jholmes

Thanks for your question. I've answered this question in detail here which may help on Peace Lilies: https://www.gardenninja.co.uk/forum/topic/in-need-of-help-with-my-peace-lily/

It sounds as if yours may have suffered from stress, which is usually water related, I know you said you've only watered it every 5 days but black leaves are nearly always a watering issue.

However, if you have new growth that's a good sign its recovering. Loosen up with the watering to every 8 days and cut back all the black growth to give it a chance to recover.

    All the best
