Amelanchier lamarkii - Autumn in Spring

    Dear Lee, hello Ninjas,

Last autumn I treated myself to a mature-ish amelanchier lamarkii (around 3 metres high). As we were unable to dig a big enough whole in the soil (heavy clay and stones) my husband had build a big raised bed (around 80 cm high) which is open in the bottom - in the hope that the roots would find their way down and grow into the garden soil. I had done a bit of research before and also asked our local garden centre if the shrub would be happy in a raised bed and they said yes. We planted the tree with loads of goodness and I had the impression it settled nicely over winter. It produced beautiful flowers and foliage in spring, but now it seems "confused" as it has gone into autumn mode with leaves turning their distinct red.

We have not had any horrid dry spells. I have watered regularly and the location of the tree is mostly sunny.

Any ideas what could be the cause and what I could do?

Thank you so much for any advice or suggestions you might have.

    Best regards

    Jo
